Traditionally the BMW 7-Series has boasted either a V8 or V12 engine. Not any longer. For model year 2011 the 740 and 740iL will have a six cylinder bi-turbo setup. “Virtual Displacement” is what BMW calls the dropping of 2 cylinders and replacing them with two turbochargers.  Engine output will be 315HP at 5800 RPM.

BMW is planning on field testing the 1 Series ActiveE Concept at a fleet scale, larger than the current Mini E field test. The 1 Series ActiveE Concept has a 170HP synchronous motor powered soloey by batteries. Charging in 4.5 hours using 220 volts, the car a rang of 100 miles.

“With its extended range of functions, including four seats, an intelligent arrangement of the ActiveE technology and dynamic qualities provided not least by the rear-wheel drive which is so characteristic of BMW, the concept vehicle reflects a new approach while remaining loyal to BMW brand values. The components of the electric drive system have been designed bearing in mind the requirements of a future Megacity Vehicle so as to advance the development of a production vehicle. The BMW Concept ActiveE moves a little closer towards the future of an individual mobility which will combine driving pleasure with CO2-free travel.”

A report has emerged detailing a U.S. vehicle preparation  agreement between BMW and Mercedes Benz. Starting March 1st, 2010 both companies will process, inspect and repair cars shipped to the Port of Baltimore.

CEO of Mercedes Benz Ernst Lieb, ” said Mercedes-Benz has both the manpower and the space to service BMW vehicles. He said “there are other opportunities” for cooperation between the two German competitors. Lieb said the two companies are evaluating whether to use a joint shipping company to handle their brands once the cars are processed in Baltimore.”

Claimed to be the fastest SUV in the world, the Brabus GLK v12 was introduced at the Dubai International Auto Show on December 11th. It has a 750 hp bi-turbo V12 engine capable of reaching 322.3 kmh (200.3 mph). Best part about it? It’s street legal. This flavor of GLK starts at 397,000 Euro MSRP.
